Transforming Clinical Laboratories: Reconstructing Value from "Volume" to "Quality" | Open TLA Empowers Smart Laboratory Upgrades
2025-05-28

Under the dual drive of DRG/DIP payment reform and centralized procurement policy, the inspection department is undergoing a historic transformation from a "profit center" to a "value center". Recently, at the founding conference of the Experimental Medicine Branch of the China Elderly Health Care Association held in Jinan, Shandong,Professor Li Yan from Wuhan University People's Hospitalthe article titled "Application of Open TLA in China" systematically elaborates on the innovative path of high-quality development in the field of inspection.

value driven healthcare drives the transformation of the laboratory department

Professor Li Yan pointed out that the traditional model centered on detection quantity is no longer sustainable. In《Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine》the latest published articles《A value-based score for clinical laboratories: promoting the work of the new EFLM committee》,The European Federation of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine (EFLM) has proposed a value based clinical laboratory scoring system (Value Score), which provides a scientific evaluation framework for the transformation of laboratory departments from "quantity" to "quality". Value based laboratories should focus on the following core dimensions:

1 Traceability of Full Process Testing (TTP):Implement full process monitoring of sample testing to ensure the reliability of results.

2 Full laboratory automation(TLA):upgrade from task oriented and island automation to full laboratory automation (TLA).

3 Laboratory data management and information quality:Enhance quality control capabilities through information integration.

4 Multidisciplinary collaboration(MDT):Strengthen interaction with clinical practice and support the rationality of testing items with guideline consensus.

Technological breakthrough of open TLA

Professor Li Yan pointed out in her speech that with the deepening of medical reform and the adjustment of medical insurance policies, laboratories are facing dual challenges of cost compression and efficiency improvement. She emphasized that many hospitals urgently need to solve problems such as insufficient space and fragmented processes through technological upgrades during branch construction or laboratory renovation. The emergence of open, next-generation TLA systems has provided a new solution for laboratories.

In response to the pain points faced by Chinese inspection departments, such as the coexistence of international equipment, space compression, and uncontrollable TAT, Inpeco FlexLab X super TLA demonstrates unique advantages:

1 compatible

The only truly open automation system that supports 30+analyzers and 25+mainstream imported and domestic brands

2 integrate, consolidate, combine, merge, unify

Support the full process management of 10+professional group samples, 3D expansion, and 3D operation

3 no upper limit

Modular design, unlimited flexibility, world's highest speed rail (15525 tubes/hour) solution, customized unlimited extreme greedy algorithm capability, balanced and efficient performance

Case sharing:

International Experience and Local Practice

Professor Li Yan demonstrated the significant achievements of the next-generation TLA in space utilization, work efficiency, and quality management through the renovation case of the central laboratory of Barcelona Clinical Hospital. She revealed that several hospitals in China are evaluating this technology and will further verify its value through actual application data in the future.

Future prospects:

Promote the high-quality development of laboratory medicine

The summary of the meeting pointed out that laboratory automation and informatization are essential for hospitals to achieve“cost reduction and efficiency improvement”the critical path.Through the application of integrated TLA systems, laboratories can reduce operating costs, improve report quality, and provide support for interdisciplinary collaboration and personalized healthcare. Professor Li Yan's sharing provided valuable practical guidance for the attending experts and scholars, and injected new impetus into the development of the industry.
